At around 4 a.m. I wake up , my mind racing. I've been told this is the" hour of the wolf". The time of unfinished business of the mind, when everything seems unmanageable. With deep breathing I can usually return to dozing. I,too, lie in bed upon awakening at 6, dreading getting out of bed, thinking about the tedium of showering, getting dressed, feeding demanding dog and cat, making coffee ...the unchanging minutiae of daily life. Sundays are the best because Sunday morning means cheesy grits and a fried egg before choir rehearsal and church! ( And someone else makes the coffee!).

Hi Liz,

I love your idea of Heartening Time, and that list you made is a good one. I often wake up early and try to go back to sleep but I rarely do. I might try this. Beats making a worry list or to-do list.

I appreciate how you always interject humor in your writing no matter the topic. Lord knows we all need more smiles and laughs, so thank you!
